Here’s the thing about living on the earth in a not-at-all tropical area: dry skin is almost inevitable. Now, there are a lucky few who rarely or never have dry skin, and there are even people who remember to apply it after showers and other times of the day, but those people are not me.
What I was surprised to find out is that going to bed with dry skin is incredibly uncomfortable. Now, I know that sounds ridiculous to those of you who do not have this problem, but I shower before bed and then just fall in. I have a general problem remembering to put lotion on anyway.
What if you’re not sure if you have dry skin or not? I can’t think of a way that you wouldn’t know. First of all, you skin will usually feel tight. It’s also frequently itchy, feels rough, and might even have an ashy appearance while it flakes or peels off (yuck). I also get cracking and bleeding, especially since I wash my hands so often.
Basically, if the skin on your hands or face looks like the skin on your foot calluses (yuck again), you probably have dry skin.
I have been told that drinking water is also a solution, and I can see that being true – because I rarely have dry skin when I’m in (get this!) Phoenix, of all places. That same rule doesn’t seem to work at the high altitude that is Denver, and for most of the year, everything is just really dry. It’s why we have to drink so much more water up here (or should, anyway). But I already drink between 2 & 3 liters each day and my skin is still dry. So…
Having this olive oil body scrub in my shower has been a gift from the heavens – or at least my kitchen. And if you’re anything at all like me, you always have olive oil and sugar in your kitchen. If that’s the case, you can make this scrub in about 2 minutes, and have a wonderful and non-toxic way to get your dry skin under control.
It’s also great as a gift, and very easy to package and clean up.
And if any of you have a good way for me to remember to put lotion on, let me know. And if you use the scrub and live with others, clean up behind you because it will make the shower or tub slippery.
